Installing your solar lights: heights, poles, fixings
The good news about solar: installation is mechanics, not electricity. Four well-placed screws beat a long speech — but a few rules save you drilling twice.
Heights that work
SWL-12 wall lights: 2–2.5 m — the height that lights a face without dazzling. SFL-01/ELS-08 flood lights: 3–6 m depending on area. Street lights: 4–5 m (DP-40), 6–7 m (DP-60), 8–10 m (DP-100). Higher = more area covered, but less intensity on the ground.
The pole: 60–76 mm, that’s it
All ELS-DP heads clamp onto standard steel tube of 60–76 mm diameter — the tube every builders’ merchant and metal workshop stocks. Concrete footing 60–80 cm for a 6 m pole; in windy spots, take the upper range.
The facade, the forgotten ally
Flood lights and ELS-DP heads also wall-mount: on a barn gable or workshop facade you save the pole, the footing and a day’s work. Just check the panel faces south.
The remote panel, well aimed
On SHL and SFL kits the panel mounts independently: due south, tilted 30–60°, clear of midday AND winter shadows. The 5 m of cable give you freedom — use it for the sun, not for convenience.
The actual toolkit
Drill, level, spanner, stepladder — and for a pole, a rented mini-digger or two hours with a pick. No 230 V work, therefore no electrician: your weekend or your works team handles it.
